Step-by-Step Instructions for Salmon Spaghetti Carbonara
1. Cook the Spaghetti
- Fill a large pot with water, add a generous pinch of salt, and bring it to a boil.
- Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions, usually 10-12 minutes, until al dente.
- Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the spaghetti and set it aside.
2. Prepare the Salmon
- While the pasta is cooking, season the salmon fillet with salt, pepper, and lemon zest.
- Heat olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
- Cook the salmon for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and flaky. Remove from the skillet and let it rest.
- Use a fork to flake the salmon into bite-sized pieces. Set aside.
3. Make the Carbonara Sauce
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, egg yolk, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and black pepper. For a richer sauce, stir in the heavy cream.
- Ensure the sauce ingredients are well combined for a smooth consistency.
4. Combine Pasta and Sauce
- Return the drained spaghetti to the pot over low heat.
- Slowly pour the egg mixture over the pasta, tossing continuously to coat the noodles evenly. The residual heat from the pasta will cook the eggs and create a creamy sauce.
- Gradually add the reserved pasta water, a little at a time, to adjust the sauce’s consistency.
