- Prepare the Base:
- In a medium bowl, combine the crushed biscuits (or graham crackers) and sugar (if using). Add the melted butter and stir until the mixture is evenly moistened.
- Press the mixture into the bottom of a 9-inch (23 cm) round or square baking dish to form a crust. Use the back of a spoon to compact it.
- Refrigerate the crust for about 15 minutes to set.
- Make the Chocolate Layer:
- In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, sweetened condensed milk, cocoa powder, and cornstarch. Whisk to combine and dissolve the cocoa powder.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens to a pudding-like consistency (about 8-10 minutes).
- Once thickened, remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and butter until smooth.
- Let the chocolate mixture cool slightly before spreading it over the chilled crust.
- Whipped Cream Topping:
- In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
- Spread the whipped cream over the cooled chocolate layer in an even layer.
- Chill and Serve:
- Refrigerate the dessert for at least 4 hours (preferably overnight) to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set.
- Slice and serve chilled, and enjoy the rich chocolate flavor paired with the creamy topping!
