This dessert is a combination of rich chocolate cake on the bottom with a silky flan layer on top – it’s magical because the flan layer ends up on top, even though it starts on the bottom when you bake it!

- 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- For the Chocolate Cake Layer:
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup boiling water

- ½ cup sugar
