- Prepare the cake batter:
-
- Preheat your oven to the temperature specified on the cake mix box (usually 350°F/175°C).
- In a bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, water, oil, and eggs. Follow the instructions on the box, or mix until smooth if you’re using homemade ingredients.
- Prepare the mason jars:
- Grease the inside of your mason jars with a little oil or non-stick spray.
- Pour a small amount of cake batter into each jar, filling them about 1/3 to halfway. The cake will rise while baking, so leave some room at the top.
- Add the cherry filling:
- Spoon a few cherries (with some juice) into the center of each jar, pressing gently so they are partly covered by the batter.
- Bake:
- Place the jars on a baking sheet and bake according to the cake mix instructions (usually 20-30 minutes, depending on jar size). You can check for doneness by inserting a toothpick—if it comes out clean, the cake is done.
- Cool and top:
- Let the jars cool completely.
- Once cooled, you can top the cakes with whipped cream or frosting and extra cherries for decoration.
- Serve:
- Serve the cakes directly in the jars for a cute and convenient presentation. Enjoy!
This cake makes for a great gift idea, too! You could even decorate the jars with ribbons or labels for a festive touch.
