Ingredients:
- 2 cans (14.5 oz each) green beans, drained (or about 4 cups of fresh or frozen green beans, cooked)
- 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken soup)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce (optional, for extra flavor)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for extra creaminess)
- 1 1/2 cups crispy fried onions (divided)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Green Beans
- If using fresh or frozen green beans, cook them according to the package directions or steam them until tender. Drain any excess water.
2. Make the Creamy Sauce
- In a large bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce (if using), garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Stir until smooth.
3. Combine Green Beans and Sauce
- Add the cooked or canned green beans to the bowl with the creamy sauce. Stir to coat the green beans evenly with the sauce. If desired, mix in the shredded cheddar cheese for extra creaminess.
4. Assemble the Casserole
- Transfer the green bean mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
5. Add Fried Onions
- Top the casserole with 1 cup of the crispy fried onions, spreading them evenly over the top.
6. Bake
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the casserole for 25-30 minutes, or until it’s hot and bubbly.
7. Add More Fried Onions
- After baking, remove the casserole from the oven. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of fried onions over the top and return it to the oven.
- Bake for an additional 5-10 minutes or until the onions on top are golden brown and crispy.
8. Serve
- Let the casserole sit for a few minutes to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!
Tips:
- Fresh Green Beans: If you prefer fresh green beans, blanch them in boiling water for 3-4 minutes, then drain and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process before adding them to the casserole.
- Make Ahead: You can prepare the casserole a day in advance and refrigerate it before baking. Just add the fried onions just before baking to keep them crispy.
- Cheese Variation: Try adding other types of cheese like Parmesan or Gruyère for different flavors.
- For a Crunchier Top: If you like more crunch, add extra fried onions on top during the last few minutes of baking.
This Creamy Green Bean Casserole is an easy, comforting, and delicious side dish that everyone will love!
