This Classic Moist Marble Cake is a delicious blend of rich vanilla and chocolate flavors, swirled together for a beautiful marble effect. It’s soft, moist, and perfect for any occasion, whether you’re serving it for a birthday or just as a treat with coffee!
Ingredients:
For the Cake:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¼ cup boiling water
- 1 tsp instant coffee granules (optional, for a deeper chocolate flavor)
For the Chocolate Swirl:
- ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
- 2 tbsp heavy cream
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Oven and Pans:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour a 9-inch round or 9×9-inch square cake pan, or line with parchment paper for easy removal.
2. Make the Cake Batter:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the flour mixture, mixing just until combined. Do not overmix.
3. Prepare the Chocolate Swirl:
- In a small saucepan, melt the chocolate chips with the heavy cream over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth.
- If you’d like a deeper chocolate flavor, dissolve the instant coffee granules in the boiling water and mix it into the melted chocolate.
4. Create the Marble Effect:
- Take about one-third of the cake batter and place it into a separate bowl.
- Mix the chocolate mixture into the reserved batter until fully combined.
- Drop spoonfuls of both the vanilla and chocolate batters into the prepared cake pan, alternating between the two.
- Use a butter knife or skewer to gently swirl the batters together, creating a marble pattern. Be careful not to over-swirl; you want the distinct marble effect.
5. Bake the Cake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
6. Serve:
- Once cooled, slice the cake and serve! You can enjoy it as is or dust with powdered sugar or serve with whipped cream or frosting for extra indulgence.
Tips:
- For a Moist Cake: Be sure to not overmix the batter after adding the flour. Overmixing can lead to a dense cake. Mix just until combined.
- Storage: Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. It also freezes well for up to 2 months.
- Optional Frosting: If you prefer a frosted cake, consider using a chocolate or vanilla buttercream for an extra layer of flavor.
This Classic Moist Marble Cake is a crowd-pleaser with its beautiful swirls and perfect balance of flavors. Enjoy every slice!
