Ingredients

  • 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups (180g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup (60g) grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup (120g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240ml) milk
  • 2-3 jalapeños, seeded and finely chopped (adjust to heat preference)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.

2. Prepare the batter

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, shredded cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  2. Add the softened butter and mix until the mixture becomes crumbly and the butter is evenly incorporated.
  3. Crack in the eggs and pour in the milk. Stir everything together until the mixture forms a smooth batter.
  4. Stir in the chopped jalapeños, making sure they’re evenly distributed throughout the batter.

3. Bake the cheese squares

  1. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it out into an even layer.
  2. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

4. Cool and slice

  1. Let the jalapeño cheese squares cool for a few minutes before cutting them into squares.
  2. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Tips

  • For extra spice, you can add some finely chopped pickled jalapeños or a pinch of cayenne pepper to the batter.
  • If you prefer a milder flavor, you can remove the seeds from the jalapeños or use less.
  • These squares can be served with a dollop of sour cream or a drizzle of ranch dressing for added creaminess.

Enjoy your Jalapeño Cheese Squares perfectly cheesy with just the right amount of heat!
