Instructions:
- Make the Batter:
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
- Gradually add water or milk, stirring until the batter reaches a thick yet spoonable consistency (like pancake batter).
- If using, add garlic powder, herbs, and cheese to the batter. Mix well.
- Heat the Oil:
- Heat about 1–2 inches of oil in a frying pan over medium heat. To test if the oil is ready, drop a small spoonful of batter into the oil. If it sizzles and rises to the top, it’s ready.
- Fry the Fritters:
- Using a spoon, carefully drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil. Don’t overcrowd the pan — fry in batches.
- Cook for about 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove fritters with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Serve:
- Serve hot, with a dipping sauce like sour cream, yogurt, or hot sauce.
