Ingredients:
For the Filling:
- 4 cups peeled, cored, and diced apples (such as Granny Smith)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
For the Dough:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
- 1/2 cup ice water
For Frying:
- Vegetable oil

- Powdered sugar
Instructions:
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a large bowl, combine the diced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and flour. Mix well until the apples are coated evenly. Set aside.
- Make the Dough:
- In a food processor, combine the flour and salt. Add the cold butter cubes and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add the ice water, pulsing until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overmix.
- Divide the dough in half, shape each half into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Assemble the Pies:
- Roll out one disc of dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness. Cut out circles using a round cutter.
- Place a spoonful of the apple filling onto one half of each circle, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Fold the other half of the dough over the filling, creating a semi-circle. Press the edges to seal and use a fork to crimp the edges.
- Fry the Pies:
- In a deep pan, heat vegetable oil to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC).
- Carefully add the pies to the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry until golden brown on both sides. This should take about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove the pies with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve:
- Allow the fried apple pies to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
