Custard-Filled Donuts

Ingredients:

For the Dough:

2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
3/4 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
2 large eggs
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
Vegetable oil, for frying.

For the Custard Filling:

2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
4 large egg yolks
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract.

For the Topping:

Powdered sugar, for dusting.

Instructions:

Prepare the Dough:
In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, granulated sugar, salt, melted butter, and eggs. Mix well.
Add the yeast mixture and gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
