Homemade Pecan Caramel Candy: A Sweet, Nutty Delight
There’s nothing quite as indulgent as homemade candy, and when it’s made with rich caramel and crunchy pecans, it’s an absolute treat. Pecan caramel candy is a delightful combination of sweet, buttery caramel and the nutty crunch of pecans, creating a perfect balance of flavors and textures. Whether you’re preparing a special gift, treating yourself, or bringing something sweet to a gathering, this candy is sure to impress.
Making candy at home might sound intimidating, but it’s surprisingly simple. With just a few ingredients and a bit of patience, you can create a batch of rich, mouthwatering caramel pecan candy that will have everyone asking for the recipe.
Ingredients:
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups pecan halves or pieces
1/2 teaspoon butter (for greasing the pan)
Optional: 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips (for drizzling)
Directions:
- Prepare Your Pan:
Begin by preparing an 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch baking pan. Grease it lightly with butter to prevent the candy from sticking. You can also line the pan with parchment paper for easier removal later. Set the pan aside. - Toast the Pecans:
In a dry skillet, toast the pecans over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes. Stir constantly to avoid burning. Toasting the pecans enhances their flavor and gives them a delightful crunch. Once toasted, remove them from the heat and set them aside to cool slightly. - Make the Caramel:
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, stir in the brown sugar, heavy cream, salt, and vanilla extract. Continue to cook the mixture, stirring frequently, until the sugar has fully dissolved and the caramel begins to simmer.
Allow the caramel to simmer for about 5-7 minutes, stirring constantly. Be careful not to let it boil too aggressively, as it may burn. The caramel will thicken slightly as it simmers.
- Combine Caramel and Pecans:
Once the caramel has reached the right consistency, stir in the toasted pecans. Make sure the pecans are fully coated with the caramel. Pour the mixture into your prepared pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula. - Cool and Set:
Let the caramel pecan candy cool at room temperature for about 1-2 hours, or until it firms up. You can also speed up the cooling process by placing the pan in the fridge for 30-60 minutes. - Optional Chocolate Drizzle:
If you want to add an extra layer of flavor and elegance, you can drizzle melted chocolate over the cooled caramel pecan candy. Simply melt 1/2 cup of milk chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl (about 20-30 seconds at a time, stirring between intervals) and drizzle the chocolate over the top of the cooled candy. Allow the chocolate to set before cutting.
