While Shannon was in her car in a shopping mall parking lot, she noticed something unusual about someone else’s car.
She believes what she saw was string, like the kind of string you might tie on a birthday present. The string was tied to the door handle of the driver’s side door of a car.
Shannon strangely found string tied to the door handle, but she saw it again on another door. In her video, she says, “Someone better not kid_nap.” This leads her viewers to believe that the string on a driver’s side door handle means someone is trying to kid_nap the driver.
In the comments section of Shannon’s video, many people shared their opinions. Some were confused by the meaning of the rope, and others jumped in to clarify. For example, one person wrote, “FOR ALL THE CONFUSED PEOPLE: So basically the rope is really hard to undo so it takes a minute and while you’re undoing it you get kid_napped.”
Others were frightened by the video and prayed for their safety. One comment read: “LORD HEAVENLY FATHER, please protect me and everyone watching this video from all this negative energy. Amen.”
Then there were people who completely rejected the interpretation of the rope meaning something dangerous. One person commented that the thread is “friendship bracelets.”
A TikTok user named Reese explained that the string is actually yarn.
Shannon still thinks it’s string, but regardless, Reese made his own TikTok explaining why a kid_napper would put string or wire on your doorknob. He shared, “The reason people use wire is because it’ll distract you for longer, and even if you have wire cutters, it’ll still take you a minute.”
Along with conveying fear with his video, Reese added some helpful tips.
“If you see this on your car, do not approach your car alone. The best thing you can do in this situation is to go back to where you were most populated,” he said.
The takeaway here is that if you see something different about your car as you walk up to it, something that you didn’t put there, like something tied to the door handle or even a water bottle or other object on the hood or roof of the car, don’t approach the car alone. It may not have been put there by kid_nappers, but it’s always best to play it safe. Head back to the store or populated area you left and have someone like an employee or security guard walk you to your car.
