Preparation:

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Line a loaf pan with parchment paper and set aside.

Filling/Topping:

In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using). Set aside.

Cake Batter:

In a large bowl, combine the granulated sugar, melted butter, sour cream, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Avoid overmixing.

Incorporate Apples:

Fold in the chopped apples, reserving a small handful for the topping.

Assemble the Bread:

Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing it into an even layer.

Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the batter.

Use a butter knife to gently swirl the cinnamon-sugar into the batter.

Repeat with the remaining batter and cinnamon-sugar mixture, adding the reserved apple pieces on top.

Swirl the top layer gently with the knife.

Bake:

Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 50–55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool:

Allow the bread to cool in the pan on a wire rack for 10–20 minutes.

Glaze:

In a small bowl, mix the sifted icing sugar with hot water until smooth and desired consistency is reached.

Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bread.

Let the glaze set for 5–10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Enjoy this delightful Cinnamon Swirl Apple Fritter Bread as a comforting addition to your culinary repertoire.
