Make the Patties: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, milk, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix until everything is well combined. Shape the mixture into 4-6 oval patties.
Cook the Patties: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook until browned on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove the patties and set aside.
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Ingredients:
2 lbs (900 g) potatoes, peeled and cubed
4 cloves garlic, peeled
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup butter
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
Boil the Potatoes: Place the potatoes and garlic in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook until the potatoes are tender, about 15 minutes. Drain well.
Mash the Potatoes: Return the potatoes and garlic to the pot. Add the milk, butter, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.
Mushroom & Onion Gravy
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon butter
1 small onion, thinly sliced
8 oz (225 g) mushrooms, sliced
2 tablespoons flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
Sauté the Onions and Mushrooms: In the same skillet used for the patties, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the mushrooms and cook until they release their juices and are browned, about 5 minutes more.
Make the Gravy: Sprinkle the flour over the onions and mushrooms, stirring to coat. Gradually add the beef broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to taste. Cook until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
Combine and Serve
Reheat Patties in Gravy: Return the cooked patties to the skillet with the mushroom and onion gravy. Spoon some of the gravy over the patties and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, until the patties are cooked through.
Serve: Serve the Salisbury steak patties with a generous helping of garlic mashed potatoes and spoon the mushroom and onion gravy over everything. Enjoy your hearty, comforting meal!
