For the Glaze (Optional):

  1. 1 cup powdered sugar
  2. 2 tablespoons milk
  3. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Stir until evenly mixed.
  2. Gradually add the warm milk, melted butter, and beaten egg to the dry ingredients.
  3. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a lightly floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1–1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.

Step 2: Make the Apple Filling

  1. In a medium skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Stir well to combine.
  3. Cook the mixture for 5–7 minutes until the apples are softened and the juices have thickened slightly. Remove from heat and let cool completely.

Step 3: Assemble the Rolls

  1. Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle (about 16×12 inches).
  2. Spread the cooled apple filling evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border along the edges.
  3. Starting from the longer side, roll the dough tightly into a log.
  4. Pinch the seam to seal, then cut the log into 12 equal pieces using a sharp knife or dental floss.

Step 4: Proof and Bake

  1. Arrange the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, leaving a little space between each roll for expansion.
  2. Cover with a towel and let them rise for 30–40 minutes until puffy.
  3. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Bake the rolls for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and fragrant.
